In the current year, the operating company Funivie Ciampinoi S.p.A. intends to extend the existing Ciampinoi 3 slope to the bottom station of the Ciampinoi cable car.
The planned ski slope has a horizontal length of 515.0 m, and a total difference in altitude of 171.4 m, resulting in an average longitudinal slope of 33.3%; the ski slope has relatively steep slopes in the upper part, with peaks of 63.0%, resulting in a classification as difficult (black slope). The lower part, on the other hand, is characterised by gentler slopes, with a minimum of 3.0%.
From a landscape point of view, the project has a limited impact on the slope concerned. The earthmoving work will result in a limited change to the existing orography, since the slope's course and gradient will be maintained without any need for special works to contain the excavation and backfill fronts. Deforestation works will be very limited. The vegetation characterisation of the areas affected by the works will not be changed and at the end of the works, following the appropriate greening, the slope will not present interruptions and fragmentation of the landscape and environment.
This project makes it possible to expand the skiing offer and at the same time to improve the viability of skiers along the ski slopes managed by the Funivie Ciampinoi S.p.A. company. The current slope route has a particularly narrow section with poor visibility due to the trees present, just downstream of the junction of the Ciampinoi 3 and Ciampinoi 4 ski slopes.
Another important point in favour of carrying out the intervention is the need to provide a valid alternative to the current ski crossing of the Frëina road, which presents countless criticalities both for the safe use of the ski slope, and for the lack of comfort in crossing it for the skiers themselves.
Along the planned slope route, there was already a ski slope used for the descent down to the valley towards the village of Selva in the last century, which was no longer used in later years in favour of the current terminal route of the Ciampinoi 3 ski slope.
